Who is Fotis Fotopoulos

Fotis Fotopoulos is a professional translator, project manager, career and business advisor.

On completing his Greek secondary education in Thessaloniki in 1992, he came joint first in the Helena Venizelos-Schilizzi Foundation’s competition among Northern Greece’s top students for a four-year scholarship in the UK. Thanks to the award he studied for a year at Sevenoaks School as a boarder and, having achieved three A-Levels, went on to graduate with a BSc (Honours) in Computer Science from the University of Sussex.

Fotis was then funded by the UK’s Engineering Research Council to specialise in Safety Critical Systems Engineering at York University, graduating with a Master’s in 1997.

From 1999 to 2004 he worked full-time in Bath as a software engineer, technical safety consultant and consultancy project manager. He has maintained near-daily contact with British affairs ever since.

Fotis began to translate in 2005, and in 2010 he achieved the Institute of Linguists’ Diploma in Translation. He was voted President of the Board of the Panhellenic (Greek) Association of Translators (PEM) in March 2016 and served a four-year term until May 2020. He is also a member of the Chaterered Institute of Linguists (UK).

Since 2011, when he set up UKmed.gr, Fotis has almost exclusively practised in the healthcare industry offering services that combine translation and bilingual professional communication with career counselling.

For Fotis the greatest source of satisfaction is helping others grow and achieve their potential.
